Majority of Westchase Schools Earn 'A' Grade

Most of the area's schools maintained A grades despite state warnings that many campuses would see letter drops. Davidsen Middle was the only school in the Westchase area to fall a letter grade.

While some Hillsborough County Schools saw their grades drop, the majority of elementary and middle schools earned As an Bs this year.

According to data released by Hillsborough County Schools yesterday, Bryant, Deer Park and Westchase elementary schools maintained their A grades. Farnell and Walker Magnet middle schools also hung on to their A grades. Davidsen Middle went from an A last year to a B this year.

Both Sickles and Alonso high schools' grades are pending and will be released at a later date.

School grades are based on a number of factors, including FCAT scores and end-of-year assessments. State officials had warned parents throughout Florida that they might see a number of schools drop in letter grades due to new standards.

“Many of our schools are celebrating today,” said Hillsborough Superintendent MaryEllen Elia on Wednesday. “We knew that the raised standards would have an impact. Despite the fact that we are in a transition year, most of our schools earned A or B, half of our schools maintained their grade, and several improved their grade. That’s a direct result of the hard work of our students and teachers.”
