Gryphons Fall in Extra Innings to Cowboys 4-5

In Tuesday night's game, Sickles scored two in the sixth to go up by a run but Gaither equalized in the bottom of the seventh then took it in the eighth.

Senior pitcher Marc Perez did well to hold The Gaither Cowboys to just four hits over six innings of work but hit four batters with pitches.

Gaither took a 3-0 lead in the third inning off a Tyler Siegel single.

Sickles came back with one run in the fourth from a Hedric Carela RBI single to left and an unearned run in the fifth to make it 3-2.

Isaac Southers drove in Mike Kuhn, followed by a drive in by Ivan Perezin the top of the sixth making it 3-4 Sickles.

The Cowboys came back with the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. It looked like a double play would end the game for The Cowboys but Frey beat out the throw to first. The runner scored from third and sent the game into the eighth inning.

Zach Jackson got on base to start the eighth inning and stole second base. Jose Gonzalez got up and blasted a shot that went all the way to the center field wall. Jackson scored from second and iced the game for Gaither.

“Our guys can’t hang their heads. Gaither is a very good team and we out-hit them,” said Coach Bob Pagano.

“We held them to six hits and had the lead going into the seventh.”

The Gryphons drop to 2-5 and will face Freedom in their next game.
