Tarpon Make Appearance, Redfish Thicker in Cockroach Bay
Capt. Jason Prieto of Steady Action Fishing Charters gives this week's fishng outlook for Tampa Bay-area anglers
Capt. Jason Prieto of Steady Action Fishing Charters Inc. has been targeting Cockroach Bay a lot recently.
He reported the redfish action is starting to improve with slot- and over-the-slot redfish on the flats, mangrove shorelines and around a lot of the oyster bars.
“But it's not where it should be,” Prieto said.

He said trout-fishing is good in 4-to-6 feet of water depth. He's had success free-lining live greenbacks for trout and redfish. Sometime's he'll add a bobber when targting reds.
Also, a few tarpon have shown on the bridges. Spanish mackerel continue to be thick through the lower end of the bay, especially around the towers and markers, he said.

The bait situation is decent with threadfins on bridges and plenty of bait on the flats at the lower end of the bay and in Cockroach Bay.
“But in the early morning, once the sun pops up, the bait has been disappearing,” he said. “It's making it pretty touhh.”
