Parrot Rescue Monday: These Besties Need a Home

Rocko and Angie, two conures, are considered a bonded pair and must be adopted together.

Editors Note: It was early July when Westchase Patch became acquainted with Florida Parrot Rescue. More than 100 exotic birds had been taken from a hoarders home in Sebring, Fla.

Several of the sick birds were treated at in Westchase. When we covered , we discovered how special these birds are to responsible pet owners, and how many of them need homes. What's more we met the people who volunteer their time to find homes for these birds.

While we love our , we feel its time to feature some pets that don't have forever homes.

Rocko, a green cheeked conure, and Angie a black capped conure are came into rescue separately, but quickly took to each other so strongly that they cannot be kept apart.

Rocko is a little less than 2 years old and Angie is only still a baby at about 8 months old.

Both birds came to us pretty untame, but have made huge strides in their socialization. Rocko steps up consistently in and out of his cage. He is very gentle, and will cuddle in your hair and groom you. Angie was never handled before, but has quickly learned that no one here will hurt her. She no longer bites and can be scritched on the back of her neck by most anyone. She is stick trained outside of the cage and will occasionally step up from a stand or from the floor, but needs more work on making that command consistent.

Both of these species of conures are very quiet birds and great for apartment or condo living. Both eat pellets as well as fresh fruits and vegetables with seeds as treats and also enjoy nuts occasionally. They are huge eaters for being such small birds! They seem to prefer women but will also go to older children. They will make wonderful companions!
