Now You Can Text Tips to Marshals About Fugitives

In addition to calling the U.S. Marshals Service to offer a tip on a wanted fugitive, you can now simply send a text.

Federal law enforcement has added another way to tip off authorities about a wanted fugitive. You can now send a text to the U.S. Marshal’s Office if you suspect someone you saw is a wanted killer, robber or sex offender that marshals are trying to arrest. The new contact method went into operation this month. You can also still call a phone number to give marshals your information, but the new method has advantages, the Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force said in a release. In the Tampa area, the number is 813-483-4250. A phone call may just connect you to an answering machine and you have to rely on a person taking the message and passing it along to the investigator then waiting for a call back, the release said. Sending a text is …

For someone as myself who is as cynical as cynical can get over governmental agencies I have to admit the Marshal Services got my attention in the last year (in a good way). I read daily of the "fugitive" apprehensions and for the first time in a long time, we may actually be getting our monies worth out this sector of Law Enforcement. The public would be surprised how many genuine "bad guys" …   more ›

Victims' Voices Heard In Tampa This Week

Tampa kicked off its recognition of National Crime Victims Rights Week on Monday morning with a proclamation ceremony led by state law enforcement leaders.

Horrifically violent stories were overshadowed by tales of community and overcoming Monday morning as State's Attorney Mark Ober led the opening ceremony of National Crime Victims Rights Week. The program, held at the Hillsborough County Center in downtown Tampa, focused on the plight of victims and their families who have suffered from violent crimes and the organizations that help the victims in their darkest hours. Along with the ceremony was a victim assistance information and resource fair outlining the duties of the Victim Assistance Program. "The amount of people we see being affected by the violence that tears at the fabric of our society is sometimes overwhelming to those of us in the law enforcement community," Ober said. "But it…

Safety Concerns Mount for Westchase Road

A serious motorcycle accident on April 13 has shed light on some of the community's most dangerous intersections.

Friday's accident on Countryway Boulevard has left one man hospitalized, in a coma, and a community asking why something hadn't been done to improve safety at the intersection before. The accident sparked an outcry among Westchase residents who say that portion of Countryway Boulevard is unsafe for pedestrians and motorists. Speed bumps, traffic lights, stop signs and more enforcement of speed limits were all suggestions for making the road safer. Adding safety measures to roads is often a community effort. "Anyone can make a request for a traffic signal," said Steve Valdez, Hillsborough County Public Works spokesman. Once the request is made, the county studies traffic volume, volume of turning movements and about 3 to 5 years of crash …

A few months back I saw an SUV completely FLIPPED over on the intersection of Countryway and Linebaugh. It took me a minute to realized what I was seeing. However, I have to say I'm not surprised. I have traveled in many parts of Tampa and the speeding in this area is down right scary. So many people disobey the speed limits when going down lineabaugh and it can make it very scary when a huge SUV…   more ›
