Fishing Report: Big Black Drum a Target in Lower Tampa Bay

Capt. Lynn Amburn said anglers have been catching black drum from 30 to 50 pounds around area bridges.

If anglers are willing to take a boat ride down to lower Tampa Bay, there reportedly are some big black drum to hoist aboard. Capt. Lynn Amburn of FishTank Charters reported that although  north end of Tampa Bay still is loaded with some smaller redfish and trout, he has received numerous reports of some big black drum east of the Misner Bridge in Pinellas County. “At the end of the peninsula, there are supposed to be some 30-40 pounders,” said Amburn, a Westchase-area fishing guide who grew up in Town 'N Country. Amburn recommends using a ¼ or 3/4-ounce jighead with a Berkley Gulp bait. “That way you can get the bait to the bottom,” Amburn said. “Just kind of drift along using your depth finder and find a school of them.
