Keystone Couple Look Beyond Presidential Candidate ro Advisory Team

The Swains voted at the Austin Davis Library.

It wasn't just about the presidential candidate to Jim and Laura Swain. But it was the teams backing the two men vying for the seat that helped the Keystone couple come to their decision on who to vote for. Specifically Republican economist Phil Gramm, who critics say ushered legislation that eventually lead to the sub-prime mortage crisis. Gramm is an economic advisor to Gov. Mitt Romney. "Why would you want these guys back in," said Jim Swain, a Keystone resident. "I look at the people behind the president. It's your team; it's not just one guy." Vote Today: The What and Where of Primary Elections in Westchase

Read this before you head to the polls today.

Today, Tuesday, Aug. 14, is primary day in Florida. That means Hillsborough County voters may cast their ballots for the candidates in their own parties they want to move onto the final election in November. Candidates running for U.S. House of Representatives, the Florida House, County and Circuit Judge, and such local races as county commission and school board are all on the ballot. The choices made Tuesday will narrow the field for the Nov. 6 general election. Here are some of the polling places in the Westchase area:

Early Voting in Hillsborough County Begins Monday July 30

Early voters can cast their ballot at any approved early voting site, not just in their precinct.

  Early Voting for the 2012 Primary Election has begun in Hillsborough County. Unlike voting on Election Day, Early Vote allows all eligible voters to cast their ballot at any of the 15 approved Early Voting sites in Hillsborough County. In a Florida Primary Election, only voters who are registered with a political party can vote for their party's candidates. However, all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, can vote in nonpartisan races (School Board and Judicial Candidates) and contests where all candidates have the same political affiliation, and the winner of the primary election will not have any opposition in the general. Date Announced For 'Meet the Candidates' Night

The event will be held on July 25 and give the public a chance to meet Hillsborough County political candidates.

  In an effort to give Hillsborough county candidates an opportunity to discuss their platforms and speak to voters, Northdale is hosting a 'Meet the Candidates' night on July 25. A meet and greet will start at 6:30 p.m., and the candidates will speak at 7 p.m. during the event at the Northdale Recreation Center, 15550 Spring Pine Drive. "This includes candidates all the way from sheriff to supervisor of elections down to candidates for judgeship and school board members," said Ann Frisbie of the Northdale Civic Association. The event, which is held during every election year, is sponsored by the civic association, Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department and Northdale Park.
