Details For President Obama's State of the Union Address

Local broadcast affiliates will preempt regular prime time programming for the President's address starting at 9 p.m.

President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night will offer local citizens more chances than ever to participate and find out more about issues they're most interested in. The White House will offer an "enhanced" viewing experience complete with charts, graphs and data. The address is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. EST and will be followed by the traditional Republican response, this year delivered by Florida's own U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio. Local U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor will be attending the address. CNN will begin its coverage at 7 p.m. with political anchors and analysts including former Speaker Newt Gingrich who ran an unsuccessful campaign in the Republican presidential primary. Watch Party Goers Pleased with SOTU Address

Host says an anti-Republican sentiment motivated him to stage the event at his home.

Quiet intensity permeated the room as a dozen people watched President Barack Obama give his State of the Union address Tuesday night. The Obama supporters came together in a South Tampa home for one of the more than 2,500 organized watch parties held throughout the country. “I’m not really politically active, but seeing what the Republicans are doing over the past few years — it’s infuriating,” said James DeCambria, who hosted the event. “This is my contribution to counter that.” Many of those who joined DeCambria were Obama supporters.
