After announcing that they were closing up shop, the local wine and gourmet shop is staying open.
LuAnn Shapiro, owner of Napa Flair has a suprise for everyone. The wine store and gourmet shop, located at 11967 Sheldon Road, is staying open another month. In an email to patrons of the shop, she says that the landlord has given them another month to finish liquidating their wines. We're not sure if that's meant to be a pun or not. The store opened two years ago. Schapiro, and her husband Ken, run the shop. Westchase Patch wrote about Schapiro's background, which includes certification as a wine professional by The Culinary Institute of America. Read "Sharing Knowledge Is Her Biggest Reward." To help with the liquidation process, the shop will be having wine tastings of Friday evenings. The schedule is sporadic, as the owners are headed …

What Small Business in Westchase Can You Not Live Without?
Saturday, September 15, 2012
An Oldsmar teen learned that you don't need a fancy lemonade stand to make money; plain old bottled water and a bit of determination will do just fine.
Josh Anderson made a nice chunk of change on the day Republican Vice-Presidential nominee Paul Ryan came to town. The 13 year-old Oldsmar resident thought Ryan supporters might end up getting thirsty during the 1/3 mile walk from his neighborhood to R.E. Olds Park where Ryan was scheduled to speak Saturday. So, Anderson made a sign, gathered some water bottles and set up shop on the corner of his street. "I'm going to make some money selling bottled water for $1 each," he said cheerfully as he sat on the corner. Anderson had not yet made any sales when Patch spoke to him at 8 a.m. However, that all changed by 12:30 that afternoon, after the rally ended and everyone was walking back to their cars. Anderson was still on the corner, looking …

Each business in Westchase, Citrus Park, Keystone and Odessa has a listing on Patch. Claiming your listing is free and has benefits.
When Patch launched in Westchase, editors and freelancers ventured to local businesses to collect information for our directory. The result: Patch Places is a spot where users can find descriptions, hours, accepted payment methods and more for spots around town. All users can add events taking place at local spots, rate the business on a scale of one to five stars and add a review. But owners of local businesses get extra bonuses when they claim a listing. This is a great tool for businesses that don’t have their own website. In fact, it’s like their own webpage. The best yet: It’s free! Owners or managers can search for their business listing and select “Do you own or manage this location? Claim it!” in order to make updates to the page. …

A sign at a Tampa area pizza restaurant warns parents they'll be asked to leave if their kids act up. What's your take?
When kids misbehave at a restaurant, should the parents be kicked out? That's the debate that's followed a recent Seminole Heights Patch story on a controversial sign placed at an area pizza restaurant. Local residents have been divided over Cappy's Pizzeria's stance on kids acting up at the North Florida Avenue restaurant, where a sign reads, "Parents, for the safety and comfort of everyone, if you allow your child to run, scream, or misbehave, parties will be asked to leave.” We're wondering what Westchase Patch readers think. Our neighborhood is home to several pizzerias and other restaurants that families frequent. Do you think more restaurants should adopt this rule? Or is Cappy's out of line? Patch reader Kay applauded the move, …

A look at what's happening with businesses in Westchase and surrounding neighborhoods
Bright Eyes Family Vision Care and Great Art and Frame, two of Westchase's favorite small businesses, are claiming new addresses. After being at the same Montague Street location for five years, Dr. Nathan Bonilla-Warford's office is now located at 9912 W. Linebaugh Ave. between Sylvan Learning Center and West Park Dental Associates. "After being in the same location for over five years, we had outgrown the space," Warford told Patch. "Although we loved being on Montague St. there were improvements that we wanted to make to Bright Eyes that simply weren't possible without acquiring more space." The new location has hardwood floors and a vaulted ceiling giving it a more modern, spacious look. Warford plans to have an official grand …

They need to stick to making beer. The food was way to overpriced for what you get and wasn't even that good. I paid $17 for pork with rice and beans thinking I could share this with my wife. I could have got three times the amount at my local Cuban restaurant for less than that. They also didn't even have enough menus to go around to all the patrons at the bar.   more ›
