Westchase Dance School Performs For 'Dance Moms' Star

The Dawson Dance Academy competed in a high profile competition.

A Westchase dance company recently competed against dancers from the across the state in front of a television star.

Seven dancers from Dawson Dance Academy took part in the Abby Lee Dance Company Expressions Dance Competition in Orlando on Saturday, June 30. Lee is the longtime owner of the Abby Lee Dance Company and star of the highly successful show "Dance Moms."

The competition featured dancers from across the region who were pre-selected by Lee. Dawson Dance Academy was the only dance troupe chosen to compete from Tampa. 

"Dance Moms" airs on the Lifetime Channel Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Dance Moms star Abby Lee traveled from Pennsylvania to judge the competition at the Florida Hotel in Orlando. A portion of the competition could air on an upcoming episode of Dance Moms.

The Dawson dancers performed two ballet pieces one choreographed by Jennifer Dawson-Waz (Send in the Clowns) a mini ballet trio and  junior small group (Tiny Dancer) choreographed by Dana Snell, according to Dawson-Waz, who owns the Dawson Dance Academy, located at 12615 Race Track Road in Westchase.

The Send in the Clowns performance was awarded a High Gold Dog Tag and the Tiny Dancer performance was awarded a Gold Dog Tag.
